Small Talk Six: Good old school days

A new weekly meme on MomDot called "Small Talk Six" where each Saturday has a topic and you can respond to each topic with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, or 6 photos.

Today’s topic is “6 things you loved or hated about school.”

1. I hated homework. I don't understand why kids have to be at school for 8 hours and then are made to do 2-4 hours worth of homework. Makes no since.

2. I loved being in the band. I played the flute. I made some great friends and learned all about music. In my senior year of high school I was the drum major and directed our marching band.

3. I hated bullies. In 6th grade I got bullied on the bus. That leads me to number 4.

4. I hated riding the bus (see number 3). It was always over crowded and since I wasn't one of the popular kids I always had a hard time finding a seat.

5. I loved the carefree days. Although they didn't seem carefree then, looking back I think they were. Real life is so much harder.

6. I loved the teachers that touched my life. My second grade teacher Mrs. Killpatrick. My middle school band teacher Mr. Walker. My 6th grade biology teacher Ms. Brooks. My high school band teacher Mr. Hodges. My 11th grade English teacher Mr. Williams. My high school technology teacher Mr Westbrook. This is a shout out to you guys. Thank you all for helping to shape me into who I am today.

Blog Hop Tuesday: Time To Laugh

This week's Blog Hop theme is "TIME TO LAUGH". We are supposed to post either our favorite joke, cartoon, funny picture or video. We all need a good laugh sometimes, what a great way to start the week..

I saw this video several months ago and I know that I wanted to create a post about it. Every time I see it, it makes me laugh. Sometimes I wish life was a musical.

What would your reaction be if you were in a public place and everyone around you started dancing in unison. I can not imagine the effort it took to organize this.

Somebody in this list is going to win. How about you?

Small Talk Six: Goodbye summer

A new weekly meme on MomDot called "Small Talk Six" where each Saturday has a topic and you can respond to each topic with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, or 6 photos.

Today’s topic is “6 things you’ll miss (or won’t miss) about summer.”

1. I won't miss the heat. I hate being hot. I just hate to sweat.

2. I will miss the summer fruit. Watermelon, peaches, strawberries. Yum-O

3. I won't miss the electric bill. We definitely save money during the winter.

4. I won't miss BUGS. Mosquitoes are terrible and the GNATS. They are terrible this year. You can't be outside more than 30 seconds with them swarming you.

5. I will miss flip flops. I hate to have to find socks for my 4 kids and during the summer I don't have to worry much about socks because everyone either goes barefoot or they wear flip flops.

6. I will miss my kids with their summer glow. I am usually pale and burn very easily but my husband is the opposite. Luckily my kids don't have my skin type. They take after my husband and tan up so pretty. Mia especially gets very dark during the summer. Before you get on me about all the bad stuff about the sun I will say that I do keep them covered up with sunscreen but they still do tan.

Rainbow Birthday Party part 5 goody bags

Here you can find part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4.

Who doesn't like to leave a party with a goody bag.
I covered some of the things that I am going to put in the goody bag in part 1.

Like this

and this

and this

Here are some other things I am going to add to the goody bag.

I found these at Charlotte's fancy. Zoe is excited about these. She had been wanting an iPod nano since her sister got one back in February. My husband and I are thinking about getting her one for her birthday. A pink one of course.

These party favors are made with a pack of crackers wrapped up like a present but, as Molly stated on Charlotte's fancy, crackers would be a disappointing discovery and maybe something like a Kit-Kat would be better. Soon the Halloween candy will be put out and I am sure I can find some kind of candy bar that is the right size. I can even use the small bars of Kit-Kat's to do this with.

One more thing that I want to add is this
which I found at Chica and Jo's site. They give full directions on how to make these. The only problem is that since I have so many colors to add in I had a hard time with it so I plan on doing this instead

what you do is you take pieces of crayons and you can either line your muffin tin with foil or a cup cake liner or you can use a silicon muffin pan. You then heat your oven to 350° and bake for 10 to 15 minutes. I have a star shaped silicon muffin pan and will use one crayon of each color for each recycled crayon.

This is kind of what they will look like but star shaped of course.

One more thing I want to add is these

I found a site called Oh Nuts! that has all the colors that I need but to get just 2 of each color (which is 14 sticks) they want to charge me over $13 in shipping. Good grief.

I found directions at about.com where they show you how to make homemade rock candy. I guess I am going to have to try it out.

Now I have to have something to put all of these goodies in. I have wracked my brain about this one and I have searched high and low and nothing special has popped out. So what I think I am going to do is take the simplistic approach and do something like this

but instead use white lunch bags and tie it up with curling ribbons of all the colors. I think that would look very pretty.
What do you think?

Wordless Wednesday: Puppet Theater

Here is a puppet theater that I made

The show is about to begin

the curtains pull back

5 little monkeys swinging in the tree

a captive audience

the show is over and time to pack up

the first side folds back

the other side folds to the front

it folds together in the shape of a Z

latches on both sides to keep it closed
first latch

second latch

stores flat and can fit on a book shelf

I am thinking about making these to sell. Would you buy one? If so would you want a set of finger puppets with it? How much do think it is worth?
Thanks

Kids say the darnedest things: "My Family"

Here is Lea and she is holding a toy microphone that echos when you talk into it. She was walking around the house singing into it to some random tune.

"When you in my heart, you my family
My family, my family"

She just kept singing that over and over maybe sometimes adding other things in that I could not catch and I just thought it was too cute.

A lesson learned from a 4 year old. When you are in my heart then you are my family.

Later on I caught her doing it again and was able to record it

Kids say the darnedest things: Fresh Bread

Ok, let me set this up for you. When I am grocery shopping and need to get a loaf of bread Zoe and Lea both insist that they must smell the bread to make sure that it is a good loaf. This process can take up to several minutes of them kneeling on the ground smelling all the loafs of bread (despite all the stares) to find the right one.

One of the kids favorite types of bread is the Sunbeam Bar-B-Q bread (known to us as good bread). It is the kind that is very soft and sticks to the roof of your mouth.

Well several days ago we went shopping and I was in a hurry so when it came time to get the bread I told then that we didn't have time to smell them today and to just grab one. So they did and we went on our merry way.

Several days later as we were eating supper we opened up the bag of "good bread" and handed everyone a slice. I took a bite of mine and complained that this loaf was dry. Mia complained about it being very crumbly (which it usually isn't).

Without missing a beat Zoe piped up and said "You should have let me smell the bread, mommy."

We all laughed and I told her that she was right and that I will never make that same mistake again. From now on we will make time to smell the bread.

Small Talk Six: Beyond Lazy

A new weekly meme on MomDot called "Small Talk Six" where each Saturday has a topic and you can respond to each topic with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, or 6 photos.

Today’s topic is “6 things people do that you think are beyond lazy.”

1. Buying new socks every time they run out because they don't take the time to wash clothes and then when they finally do wash clothes they have more socks then will fit into their sock drawer.

2. Instead of taking the time to take out the trash when it is full they keep piling it up on top making it topple onto the floor.

3. When someone is working outside and they need something from inside they text someone inside to bring it out to them.

4. When someone is the last one out of bed and see that the other side of the bed had been made up but they don't make their half.

5. Throwing their clothes right in front of the hamper instead of in it.

6. Asking someone who just sat down to go get them a drink.

Wordless Wednesday: My little boy is growing up

We got you in February

You fit so well in my arms

You came when you were called

You were so small

Look how you have grown in the past 6 months.
